UTC 2016: “Lean Subsea – the way forward"
UTC 2016 will be the 22nd Underwater Technology Conference, and 900 professionals and 60 exhibitors are expected to attend the conference.
Bernt Skeie, CEO at CMR Prototech.
The Underwater Technology Conference (UTC) Bergen, Norway (14) 15 – 16 June, 2016 has a well-known history of presenting highly competent speakers on current and important topics for the subsea industry. UTC 2016 will be the 22nd Underwater Technology Conference, and 900 professionals and 60 exhibitors are expected to attend the conference.
CMR has for years been involved in managing and planning the programme.
The title of this year`s UTC is “Lean Subsea – the way forward”. Cost reduction is one of, if not the single biggest issue facing the subsea industry in the current price climate.
Bernt Skeie, CEO at CMR Prototech will be attending not only as visitor but also as one of the speakers.
His lecture has the title “CHEOP – Clean Highly Efficient Offshore Power”.
“For the offshore industry to reduce emissions and increase power efficiency a fuel cell system for offshore power is an ideal candidate. With electric efficiencies of more than 60%, the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions can be reduced to 50% of the original values.
The Subsea Fuel Cell will remove the need for additional power in subsea factories, both from land cables and platforms. For topside utilization, the goal is to replace existing gas turbines with fuel cells.
An ongoing RCN-funded project (Petromaks 2) at CMR Prototech will develop a robust and compact 10kW Solid Oxide Fuel Cell system applicable for both topside and subsea applications. Simultaneously a MW-scale system for topside application will be designed.
Industrial partners are Statoil Petroleum AS and AS Norske Shell”, Skeie explains.
Your expectation to this years UTC?
“UTC 2016 will be the 22st Underwater Technology Conference, and this year it also includes a day zero – where the focus will be on the Market Outlook and Investors perspectives, as well as International Research, Development and Innovation. In my opinion these topics add another dimension to the UTC which is most welcome.”
The importance of UTC as you see it?
“The Underwater Technology Conference is known to present highly competent speakers on important topics for the subsea industry. This summer’s conference will feature a great industry line-up of senior executives from Schlumberger, ExxonMobil, Statoil, Aker Solutions and GE Oil and Gas giving keynote presentations, and also some very interesting news from CMR Prototech.”
