Successful student project: STARBURST
Last week, success was a fact. In the student summer job project STARBURST led by Kongsberg, and where Prototech employed and mentored the student Fredrik Samdal Solberg, a stratospheric balloon was sent up in the air on Andøya.
Fredrik has designed and 3d-printed two payload structures that contained live-feed video equipment and other electronics on a journey that went 31.7 km up into the stratosphere. After flight, the hardware contained a radio beacon allowing it to be tracked and recovered by boat. The payload structure was 3D printed using in-house equipment and expertise at Prototech. STARBURST is the first collaborative project involving several companies from the Norwegian space industry that gives students the opportunity to work in a student team deployed at the partnering companies sites across the country.
